What is the cheapest CDN in 2026?v
For unmetered bandwidth: Cloudflare Free. For per-GB rate: BunnyCDN Volume Network at $0.005/GB. Both have $0-$1 minimums.
Why is Akamai not listed with a per-GB rate?v
Akamai does not publish a per-GB rate card. All commercial terms are quote-driven via sales. We will not invent a rate.
What happened to Edgio (Limelight)?v
Edgio entered Chapter 11 in 2024 with parts of the business acquired. Confirm continuity before signing any contract.
Is Azure CDN still available in 2026?v
Microsoft retired Azure CDN Standard from Microsoft during 2025. Customers are steered to Azure Front Door (Standard or Premium tiers).
Does CloudFront have a free tier?v
Yes. 1 TB data transfer out + 10 million HTTP/HTTPS requests per month, all regions, forever. Use it.
Does Cloudflare really have unmetered bandwidth on the Free plan?v
Yes. Bandwidth is unmetered on every plan including Free. They do reserve enforcement rights for video-heavy or pirated content; read the Self-Serve Subscription Agreement.
How do I estimate my CDN cost?v
Use the cost calculator. Plug monthly egress and region mix; it returns each vendor's rack-rate floor. Quote-only vendors return without a number.
What is a quote-only vendor?v
A vendor that does not publish a per-GB rate you can compare against. Quote-only does not mean expensive; it means there is no anchor before you start negotiating.
Do I need WAF if I use a CDN?v
Most production sites do. Cloudflare bundles WAF into Pro+ ($25/mo). AWS WAF is $5/mo + $0.60 per million requests on top of CloudFront. Fastly Next-Gen WAF is quote-driven.
How often do CDN prices change?v
Per-GB published rates change roughly once every 18-24 months at the major vendors. Plan bundles change more often. We re-verify quarterly and stamp the footer date on every page.
Should I multi-CDN?v
Above 100 TB/month and for revenue-critical streaming, yes. Below that, the operational overhead exceeds the savings. Bunny + CloudFront is a common multi-CDN pairing.
